Although large companies already have their loyalty base of customers; communicating their daily specials and discounts personally via Twitter means a lot to a customer instead of having to search through the paper for a coupon. It is no surprise that social media is rapidly growing and helping small businesses create the customer base they need to be successful, but is it a threat to the larger businesses? I tend to wonder if people are going to begin going to the local cafe because of the personal connections they create and leave larger businesses like Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts to dry.

When I first heard about Twitter I did not get what all the hype was about. At first I thought it was all about people just typing random things. I honestly did not see the value in it. However, Twitter has exploded to become the face of microblogging and I have begun to realize its potential.
ReplyDeleteOne of the things I like most about Twitter is the real time interactivity of it. You can post something and have a response in seconds. Also, Twitter gives producers the ability to build relationships with customers. This interaction can help to create a larger customer base and can also be used to create more repeat customers.
Cassandra’s article surprised me when it said “more small businesses have flocked to Twitter in larger numbers than big businesses”. It made me wonder why larger businesses were typically not taking advantage of this form of social media. I think that this is due to the fact that larger businesses already have established names and don’t need to encourage talk.
Having said this, I think that this growing trend of social media will begin to even the playing field between small and large businesses. It is unbelievable how many people have flocked to sites like twitter. I give a new hope to small businesses that take advantage of it.
The evolution or Twitter was put into over drive at the start of last year, before then only a handful of people knew about the internet phenomenon. It has been used in numerous ways over the past two years; people saying what they are doing or how they are feeling to the masses.
ReplyDeleteHowever, Twitter is also being used by businesses to help further their revenue. Cassandra's article states that smaller businesses are migrating to Twitter is much larger numbers than big businesses. All I have to say on the matter is; do you blame them?
Advertising these days for any business is very costly so for the little guys this is the best, fastest and most up-to-date way of comunicating with their customer base which should maximize their net profit. The best part about it is that the owner or operator of the page can talk to the consumer not at them, making it a much more personal experience for both parties.
